I am involved in a variety of ‘work’ as part of my retirement portfolio. Should you wish to discuss my involvement in any of these areas, please use the Contact page to establish what you want and how I may be able to help you. Unless stated otherwise, all fees are negotiable.

  • Celebrant & MC services

These are bespoke opportunities, tailored to the needs of an individual, couple, family, community or organisation. Personal events can include (Celtic- style) ‘handfastings’, family anniversaries and life-thanksgivings (funerals), following consultation with those involved about the nature, style and location of the event. Public events can include MC-ing at village festivals, multi-participant charity concerts etc.

Fees (including expenses) are normally set by the organisers/venues.

  • Charities & Governance

During my working lifetime, I have severally served both as Trustee for various charities and as a school governor; often this involved time as ‘Acting Chair’ or vice-chair. In retirement, I have advised charities, local groups etc. in matters of governance, served as executive vice-Chair of the UK’s Mennonite Trust (overseeing its role transition) and continue to act as a panel member or chair for voluntary and statutory bodies, including the NHS. I am available to chair one-off process- (possibly several sittings) situations for such groups.

  • Christian educator, preacher and worship leader

As a retired, accredited URC Minister, I accept a certain number of Sunday preaching appointments each year and also a number of Festival/Anniversary/celebratory speaker appointments. Both can involve the (non-musical) leading of worship. IF denominations mandate preaching fees, these should be paid; travel expenses are welcomed.

Because of the practical discipleship-application of several of my books, some of these Sunday appointments may be linked to my leadership of and input to a Saturday multi-session congregational/deanery/Circuit/’mission area’ conference. Both a variety of or bespoke programmes are available. These can be linked with either a Friday/Saturday evening ‘Table Talk’ gathering. I also lead (normally weekday) church leader/clergy study days by arrangement.

  • Conference speaker/seminar leader

I often speak at conferences for business organisations, charities and denominations, either from main-stage or as a (so-called “expert”) seminar leader or plenary panel member. Subjects have varied from the theological to the zoological to green topics.

  • Poetry readings

Alongside other working poets, I offer a variety of poetry readings. These can vary from a festival to a home-based gathering of local writers to pub-evenings – which can include the MC-ing of poetry slams. Amongst my range, I offer readings which feature a particular poet’s work or a thematic reading (such as the War Poets) for appropriate occasions.

  • Writing

I am always willing to discuss writing projects, whether for magazine articles, academic journals, introductions/prefaces, contributory chapters or full-length books as well as hymnody for special occasions/festivals. Some of my range is evident from the ‘Writing’ and ‘This month’ and ‘Food Blog’ pages of this website.
